Networking as an activity is encouraged everywhere as a key factor to success. LinkedIn has created a massive social media platform around it. Events everywhere tout “networking” as an added benefit of attending. Yet most of the people trying to “network” don’t understand HOW to network properly, resulting in a lot of wasted time, money and effort for business professionals.

We’ve all had people we’ve never met send us random and unexplained LinkedIn requests, or worse long emails trying to pitch us before we’ve even met them. We’ve all met people at networking events that tried to size us up and sell us on the spot, or that took our card and then without our permission added us to an email list. We’ve all seen that stack of business cards at the corner of our desks and kept meaning to do something with them, but weren’t quite sure how to correctly build those relationships in a meaningful and systematic way. And we’ve all made good contacts which we’ve fallen out of touch with because we failed to follow-up with them regularly.
